Had to get the front plate as the driver would not let me get his back plate.

More law breaking encouraged. Had to work hard to get these photos. Apparently more and more cyclists are taking pictures of cars. As soon as I rolled up, the drivers who were all standing around smoking would run up ad stand in front of their plates (knowing they were breaking the law).

Are these guys even allowed to pick up fares on the street like this? Or did the Marriott call them to sit camped out in the bike lane?

Again, encouraged by Marriott and the NYPD does nothing. This is a corporation using public space to make money, while at the same time putting cyclists at risk.

This guy had a placard in his dash as well. NYPD breaking the law.

So many on just one day.

And during bike month as well!

So many! Why does the city even waste the time and money to paint this bike lane?

After hearing some complaints about the abuse of the bike lane on Adams St in downtown Brooklyn (leading up to the Brooklyn Bridge), I changed my morning commute route to check it out.

I was shocked! Nearly 30 pictures later, and some confrontations w/ livery drivers, I finally got back on my way to work.

Marriott is hugely to blame here, but the NYPD is abusing their placards in a pretty blatant fashion (most did not even have placards and instead put various bits of NYPD paraphernalia on their dash).

Yet again (see http://nyc.mybikelane.com/post/index/4005) the Marriott in Brooklyn (Adams St) is actually encouraging cars to park in the bike lane.

Given the proximity to the various city buildings, you have to wonder why this is not only allowed, but seemingly encouraged?

This guy was reading the paper. Absolutely pathetic parking job.

Nearly hit me so he could get into this space. He also had plenty of space to park legally, but he seemed to have a chip on his shoulder.

No reason this lazy schmuck could not have parked legally.

Seriously, what is with these white vans? They even come from far away to put cyclists at risk.

This van was just backing up, going forward, backing up, going forward ... in the bike lane. No idea why. Scary who can get a driver's license these days.

This bike lane is a heavily trafficked lane by cyclists and is rarely ever empty of cars parked in it.

Seriously ... why so many of these damned vans everywhere?!

Would have been so easy for him to park legally. Lazy people.

Or they were just using the bike lane as a turning lane. Either way, rude and illegal.

This woman had a "Conserve Open Space" plate on her idling car parked in the bike lane. Yeah, she is a conservationist.

This guy decided it was easier to drive up the Class I bike lane on Tillary given much much less traffic on it.

As I was heading down Smith St at a pretty good pace (keeping up with traffic at around 20mph+), a livery car driver decides that he can "make it" and pulls out from his stop sign directly in front of me. I t-bone his rear quarter panel and fly off the bike. What a morning.

Technically not a bike lane violation, but so what. I need to vent!

And to make matters worse, he passed me extra close and then right turned in front of me about 5 blocks ahead of this. Just a bad all around driver.

This thing was just plain ridiculous. A 6 wheeled stupid machine driving in the bike lane on grand street.

On my way to the park for a lap after work, the Dean st bike lane was pretty abused.

No idea why they could not park in the empty spot next to them.

No driver in the car. Just left it here.

He left when he saw me taking his picture.

This guy was waiting outside a club idling his engine. Who knows how long he sat there polluting and blocking the bike lane.

This beast was idling in the bike lane in front of the livery from the former picture. Unlike the former, this person did not care that I was snapping their picture.

He did leave after he saw me taking his picture. I think my extra bright Cateye headlight blinking in his mirror also helped.

He was idling and just sitting there. He also had plenty of room to actually park legally.

Not much else to say. I think the passing bus shows pretty well what the danger to cyclist is when people abuse the bike lane like this.
